CONN NAHRO Accepting Scholarship Applications!

CONN NAHRO is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2022 John J. Kelly Memorial Scholarships. Annually, three or more $3,500 scholarships are awarded to students who live in CONN NAHRO member housing authority communities or Section 8 housing who may not be able to take advantage of higher education opportunities due in part to their economic circumstances.

Scholarships are available to both graduating high school seniors as well as students currently enrolled in college or vocational training institutions. To qualify, high school students must graduate in the 2021-2022 school year with a minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, be accepted into a two-year or four-year institution of higher learning working toward an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or a full time Vocational/Certificate program beginning with the Fall term in 2022, and reside in, or are assisted with their housing by, a CONN NAHRO member housing authority or agency. Students are also required to write a 250 – 500 word essay on: How will this scholarship affect me moving forward in life?

 

One feature of the scholarship program is the housing authority/agency Executive Director/CEO is responsible for submitting the application and supporting materials as well as writing a recommendation letter on the candidate’s behalf. Housing authorities may submit up to three candidate applications.

 

Deadline for applications to be accepted is 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022. Candidates are reviewed by the CONN NAHRO Scholarship Committee against a point scale that assesses criteria including need, grades, and accomplishments in and out of school including community service and employment. Recipients are presented their awards at the Annual Scholarship Luncheon on Tuesday at the CONN NAHRO Annual Convention & Exhibition in August.
