Mark E. Ojakian, Deputy Comptroller of Connecticut 55 Bloomfield Avenue Hartford, CT 06105 After successfully helping to lead a statewide political campaign, Mark Ojakian was appointed to the office of Deputy State Comptroller of Connecticut in January of 1995. Now serving in his fourth term as Deputy Comptroller, Mark serves as a senior policy and political advisor to State Comptroller Nancy Wyman. In addition to having administrative responsibility over a constitutional office of over 250 employees and fiscal responsibility for over $1 billion in state accounts, Mark has served on a variety of boards and commissions. Mark has also been an integral part of several large public policy initiatives over the last thirteen years, including programs that ensure medical coverage to uninsured children and extend affordable insurance coverage to municipalities, not- for- profit organizations and small businesses. He also assisted the Comptroller in a major technology initiative to upgrade the state’s core financial systems.
Aside from his official duties, Mark is very involved in community activities and is well-known as an energetic fundraiser for many political and non-profit causes. Mark currently serves as Chairman of the Hartford Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners and President of the Board of Trustees of Love Makes a Family. He is also a member of the Hartford Democratic Town Committee and serves on the the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mark has received numerous awards for his work including being selected as the first Leukemia Society Man of the Year and recently was honored as the recipient of the MS HOPE award. Mark received a BA in History from St. Anselm’s College in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1975 and a MA in International Relations from the American University, Washington, DC in 1977. Mark has two sons, Brandon and Kyle , and two grandchildren Connor and Madison.
